AT&T’s financial report offered a peak at its performance as Apple’s partner, stating that 3.6 million iPhones have been activated during the first quarter of 2011. The sales figure shows an increase of one million over last year’s quarterly sales figures. But since this figure includes sales of everything from new devices to re-activations of previously sold devices either returned or sold by owners, it is a little tough to find out the accurate number for Apple’s own sales performance.
23% of iPhone users were new subscribers to the network, AT&T reported. AT&T also claimed that there is no change in the rate of iPhone subscribers when compared to data from last year’s quarter stating that iPhone users are not changing to Verizon as many would have expected. On a wide scale AT&T reported smartphone sale of a whopping 5.5 million and 10.2% profit growth in its wireless division. There was an increase by 2 million in the company’s subscribers reaching 97.5 million in total. Apple will also release its earnings for the quarter later after the markets close down.
